About Suzy
Initially I obtained a Master's degree in law and worked for several business and governmental organisations. Later on I studied clinical psychological science and, beginning in 1997, started working for various mental health support agencies. In 2002 I started my private practice helping couples, individuals and families. I treated individuals, couples and families from various cultures with a wide range of problems.
After obtaining my Masters degree in Clinical Psychology I completed a 4 year post-masters licensing program in Psychotherapy (RINO; doctoral level) and a 3 year post-graduate program in couples-and familytherapy (ISOOH; Drs Rick Pluut). In my post-masters program, I received training and supervision in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, client centered psychotherapy and EMDR. I also received training in body oriented psychotherapy.
In 2002 I started my private practice helping couples, individuals and families. In 2004 and 2005 I received couple- and familytherapy training from Dr Maurizio Andolfi in Italy. In 2007 I was introduced to Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). Since then I have been studying EFT and very regularly attended courses and workshops, mainly in the United States. I have assisted various EFT training courses in Europe as well as in the United States. For the past four years I have been lecturing EFT at one of the post -master psychotherapy licensing institutes in THe Netherlands. Together with my colleague Tom Brinckmann I set up the program for this course.
I am a licensed psychologist (Drs, MSc.), a psychotherapist (RINO; post-master level), a certified Marriage and Family Therapist and a certified EFT therapist and supervisor (ICEEFT). I am a member of the Dutch Association for Relationship and Family Therapy (www.NVRG.nl) and a member of ICEEFT (the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy). I am also certified as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP).
